Hershey Middle School, Derry Township School District

For this phased project, a total of approximately 40,000 SF will be added to the existing 157,000 SF structure to accommodate the expected growth in student demographics. The first phase of the project involved renovations to approximately 19,630 SF as well as a 7,620 SF addition and included full renovation of kitchen and cafeteria space, conversion of the existing library into classroom and science classrooms, and the design of a new centrally-located Media Center. The project also includes an outdoor amphitheater that provides space directly outside of the Media Center for outdoor reading sessions, classes and small performances.

Phase Two includes renovation of the existing Administration Area into three classrooms and creation of a new Administrative addition. The addition provides space to meet District-wide administrative needs as well as to provide an easily identifiable and secure main entry to the Middle School. The design process, design documentation and construction documentation phases were expedited by the design team in order to meet the District’s occupancy goal date of August 2013.

This project commission was secured through the successful participation by SG in a design competition.
