Thomas Durham School, Independence Charter School

After conducting a feasibility study to determine if Independence Charter School could relocate to a vacant school building built in 1910, SG was retained to provide design services for all necessary additions and renovations. It was determined that the existing 50,000 SF facility would require a 14,000 SF addition to accommodate the existing K-8 program. The feasibility study also included programming, cost estimation, zoning review, existing building assessments, master planning and evaluation of historical tax credit eligibility. Design services provided upgrades and modifications to the existing building required for code compliance and include new electrical and HVAC systems. SG additionally assisted with navigating the project through the Philadelphia zoning approval process. Construction proceeded utilizing a design/build approach in which SG and our consultants worked directly with representatives of the school and the contractor.
