SCHRADERGROUP Attends Upper Merion Area School District’s Groundbreaking Ceremony for their New High School Project

SCHRADERGROUP (SG) attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony marking the beginning of the construction process for the Upper Merion Area School District’s new High School project.

Students, teachers, district administrators, elected officials and community members gathered to celebrate this promising new facility that will provide next-generation learning spaces for the students.

This 345,000 SF facility connects to the existing middle school through the athletic facilities creating a full secondary campus. A full competition gymnasium and competition swimming venue will be the connector to the middle school. A true “student commons” is the heart of the facility, designed as an “all-day” area for multiple activities. The students commons is a two-story atrium space with learning resources on the second level enhancing the research-and project-based components mixed with dining and food-based opportunities. After hours, this space supports pre-and post-activities for the athletic and performing arts complexes. The performing arts complex is a complete 650-seat theater with balcony and all supporting spaces. The UMASD students will have tremendous learning opportunities once this facility is complete.

After a community-engaged master planning process and two successful new elementary school projects, SG is honored to continue our partnership with UMASD on this highly anticipated state-of-the-art facility.

SCHRADERGROUP team attends this year’s DVASBO Trade Show

SCHRADERGROUP (SG) exhibited at this year’s DVASBO Trade Show which was held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA this past week.

The Delaware Valley Association of School Business Officials (DVASBO) is a regional chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO). The Regional Association has over 1,000 members. Its mission is to help develop and support school business operation leaders.

SG experienced another successful event with the DVASBO community at the Annual Trade Show and eagerly anticipates the next opportunity.

SCHRADERGROUP Celebrates Fifteen Years!

This year marks SCHRADERGROUP (SG)’s fifteenth anniversary. The business was established on April 15, 2004 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Fifteen years ago, Managing Partner David Schrader founded SG with the vision of designing for the future—for tomorrow’s workers, thinkers, and leaders. SG’s initial mission was to give back to the community and to build foundations for future generations. Since its inception, SG has succeeded in creating 21st century academic facilities for students, instructors, and staff. SG has also designed sustainable, survivable, community-oriented facilities for public safety/law enforcement personnel and mission critical personnel. SG is recognized both regionally and nationally for design that offers the highest degree of service to the user, responds to and respects both the built and natural environment, and demonstrates inspired aesthetics.

As SG continues to grow, we honor our beginnings and those who have helped shape us into what we’ve become today. In the images below, we have collected some of our most memorable accomplishments from those last fifteen years.

SCHRADERGROUP Partners with Upper Merion Area School District Administration to Provide Saint Joseph University’s Education Doctorate Program with a Tour of Gulph Elementary School

SCHRADERGROUP (SG)’s Managing Partner, David Schrader, was proud to assist in a presentation and group tour of the Upper Merion Area School District (UMASD)’s Gulph Elementary School. The tour was provided for the Saint Joseph University’s Doctoral Program in Educational Administration.

SG is proud of the opportunity to share the incredible school that UMASD has built as an example of how inspiring learning environments can make a difference in education today. Gulph Elementary School is an excellent example of how the collaboration between a School District and a design team can result in transformative facilities to support next generation learning processes.

Upper Merion Area School District Welcomes Two New Elementary Schools with Excitement to Their Portfolio of Excellent Learning Environments

SCHRADERGROUP (SG) attends Upper Merion Area School District (UMASD)’s ribbon cutting for new elementary schools, Caley and Gulph.

UMASD welcomed two new elementary schools, Caley Elementary and Gulph Elementary, to their portfolio of excellent learning environments with excitement at their ribbon cutting last week.

SG is proud to be the architect for these two exciting, new elementary schools. The new schools will replace the existing Caley Elementary School and Gulph School facilities, which were originally constructed in the 1960’s and no longer accommodated the District’s enrollment or educational program.

Caley and Gulph were received by the School District and public with enthusiasm. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. John Toleno, and the District Board Member-President, Alice Hope praised the design team for “capturing what we needed for the district.” The buildings represent the culmination of a journey that started with design workshops that includes students, faculty and public conceptualizing their ultimate learning environment and culmination in these wonderful spaces for future generations to absorb knowledge.

SG is grateful for the opportunity to design learning environments with such vision. The team looks forward to continuing to support the District in its future visions.

SCHRADERGROUP Architect speaks at Upper Merion Area School District Classroom about Accessibility for All

The SCHRADERGROUP (SG) team recognizes that a part of our mission is to inspire and encourage the future generation of students, not just through the facilities we design, but by being a part of their education in the classroom.

Recently, Project Architect, Dan D’Amico, AIA, had the opportunity to visit with the 3rd grade class at Roberts Elementary School in the Upper Merion Area School District (UMASD). SCHRADERGROUP recently designed and currently has in construction two new elementary schools for UMASD, Caley Elementary School and Gulph Elementary School.

Mr. D’Amico assembled a presentation, “Architecture for Everyone” that highlighted the different challenges and design criteria architects encounter in order to make buildings accessible for everyone. He discussed how architecture has evolved over the years to include different standards that help make buildings accessible to different people. As part of this experience, students provided creative observations about ways architects can design buildings to help serve the people that use them.

After the presentation, a few volunteer students were asked to participate in activities that helped to illustrate the different struggles some people face that others take for granted. These activities allowed the students to experience why reach ranges, grab bars and other standards outlined by ADA are important for architects to follow. Afterwards, the 3rd grade students were inspired to “design” their own dream schools that were accessible to all learners.

The SCHRADERGROUP team will continue to contribute to the communities we serve—not only through dynamic design—but also teaching opportunities like these!
